| Description: |
'Jesus' blood never failed me yet, this one thing I know, that He loves me so.' This song of a London tramp, arranged by Gavin Bryars and interpreted by Tom Waits, was a hit in the British charts in 1993. Bryars was so fascinated by the short melancholic tune, which he had heard in a documentary film on homeless people in 1973, that he repeated the song 180 times, putting harmonic minimalist orchestral music on top of that loop. Bryars' compositions give the listener the feeling of looking at a picture. There is only one state that is illuminated: the simple trusting religious feelings of the tramp.
