This work was composed in summer 1994 as film music for the "Brother of Sleep" directed by Joseph Vilsmaier. The Toccata is part of an organ competition at the end of the movie. Genius organist Eliah who got his supernatural listening from god and devil is hypnotizing the audience in Feldberg Cathedral with a demonic organ composition. After a fragmented beginning, the 'Elsbeth' theme appears in the pedal part followed by the chorale 'O come, death you brother of sleep' (from J.S. Bach's cantata 'I Will Gladly Bear the Cross'). This is a prophecy to Eliah's suicidy after the genious concert: "Those who love will not sleep" is the maxim of his dying.
