Play Add to notepad Emile Naoumoff: The Great Gate of Kiev
from: Pictures of an Exhibition (1993)
Instrumentation: 2 pianos (4 hands)
Categories: Ukraine Orchestra Piano Romance Pathetic Film Celebration Passion
Description:
A city gate, in the old-Russian massive style, depicted by a powerful hymn with the sound of bells – who does not remember 'The Great Gate of Kiev' from Mussorgsky's piano cycle 'Pictures at an Exhibition'? The French composer of Russian origin Émile Naoumoff had the inspiring idea to change the original version for solo piano into a piano concerto. The combined sounds of piano and orchestra increase the magic, suggestive powers of the work and of the pictures and images that are generated in our mind's eye.
