| Description: |
This highly expressive work almost instantly made Stravinsky an internationally renowned composer. The premiere of his 'Firebird' at the Paris Grand Opera in 1910 was a sensational success, making Stravinsky a ballet composer par excellence. A Russian fairy-tale inspired the composer from St. Petersburg to write his world-famous ballet music 'The Firebird', the musical substance of which he later reformulated in three orchestral suites of different duration and different instrumentation. The fight between good and evil, the supernatural and the dark kingdom is a theme that has always fascinated mankind. Stravinsky's modern, expressive musical language revives the fairy-tale with rhythmic power and colourful splendour.
