| Description: |
'I walk through this ancient village, alone, like a ghost.' The last words of the poem 'Noche de verano' ('Summer Night') by Manuel Machado conjure the uncanny atmosphere that Luigi Dallapiccola has recreated in his short atmospheric piece. 'Summer Night' depicts the plaza of an old village, deserted at night, across which the moonlight casts black shadows. The feeling of eerie loneliness inspired Dallapiccola to create soft introverted sounds, interrupted by ghost-like, sudden high-pitched insertions.
