| Description: |
'Scorched' is a wild piece. The fact that it mainly deals with jazz and funk is already implied in the instrumentation which includes a jazz band and three jazz soloists apart from a common symphony orchestra. When the guitars howl and the saxophone whines, the jazz fan and composer Turnage is in his element. Thanks to the loony musical structure, the piece again and again lapses into the psychedelic. Like a drug-induced euphoria – only much healthier.
CD: Deutsche Grammophon 474 729-2 - John Scofield, Guitar - John Patitucci, Electric Bass - Peter Erskine, Drums - RSO Frankfurt - HR Big Band - Hugh Wolff, Conductor |
