Walzer für Orchester
Instrumentation: orchestra
Categories: Celebration Comedy & Fun Joy Orchestra Germany Austria lazy weekends
Description:
The work 'Zittern und Wagen' by the Bavarian composer Wilhelm Killmayer is the most unusual concert waltz ever written. Whoever has to listen to it at the first dance lesson when trying to learn waltz steps could really think of the aforementioned motto: 'Zittern und Wagen' [Trembling and venturing]. A bit weird, the waltz theme meanders its way through all instruments of the large-scale orchestra, bright orchestral colours condensing into clownish musical actions. There is some major stumbling and bumping, as happens with dancers wearing shoes that are too big. A masterly composed funny piece which could most aptly be described as musical slapstick.
