A society at the court who, splendidly dressed, dances a minuet with dainty steps and ceremonial bows and curtsies – these are the associations aroused by Krzystof Penderecki's Minuet. The pleasing lively music is reminiscent of works by Haydn or Mozart. The Polish composer wrote the work that forms part of 'Drei Stücke im alten Stil' in 1963 for the famous film 'The Saragossa Manuscript' directed by Wojciech Has. The film revels in montages of time and space, to which with Penderecki composed electronic music as well.
