| Description: |
| Is there anyone who does not know the music of the films 'La Strada' or 'Godfather'? It was the film music that made Nino Rota famous. No other composer had such a sense of the themes and stories in Fellini's films. As composer of 'serious music', however, Rota has remained widely unknown though he wrote late-Romantic sounding operas, orchestral, chamber and sacred music. On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Molière's death in 1976 he created the ballet-comedy 'Le Molière imaginaire' in collaboration with the famous choreographer Maurice Béjart. In 1978 the Italian composer re-arranged it into a ballet suite for orchestra. In the overture of the suite, it is in particular the change between the melancholic dreamy theme and passages of exuberant joie de vivre that fills the listener with enthusiasm. |
