| Description: |
Michael Tippett's idol in his student days was Ludwig van Beethoven. But it was not only the music of the German composer that inspired Tippett to write his frequently played 'Concerto dor Double String Orchestra'. Elaborately and artistically, he also incorporated elements of English Renaissance music, Stravinsky's sound world, jazz, blues and Scottish folklore in the rich sounds of the strings. The outer movements 'Allegro con brio' and 'Allegro molto', in an hymnic and enthusiastic tone, frame a lyric and, with regard to the melody, elaborate adagio cantabile.
