| Description: |
The gardens of Japan which include in their aesthetic effect the landscape surrounding them, are to this landscape as Takemitsu's 'Quotation of Dream' to the orchestral piece 'La Mer' by Claude Debussy. In 'Quotation of Dream' he weaves passages from 'La Mer' into his own 'sea music' in a fascinating and perfectly smooth manner. It is this technique and his impressionist tone colours that make Takemitsu stand out as exceptional composer and most important Japanese musician of the 20th century. The subtitle 'Say sea, take me'!' has been borrowed from a poem by Emily Dickinson. The 'dream visions' invite the listener in a sensual and seducing manner to pause and meditate in Takemitsu's garden.
