| Description: |
'Momentum' – the short piece begins with gloomy and wild fanfares in the brass. In its further development, it is Turnage's typical musical language, a unique blend of jazz and classical music, that fills the listener with enthusiasm. 'What Miles Davis did in 1958, for example, is of greater importance than anything the Darmstadt people did', he says with regard to the important Darmstadt School of New Music. 'It's a simple fact: Jazz – that's the music that will survive this time.' 'Momentum' was originally commissioned for the opening of Birmingham's new Symphony Hall in 1991.
