'O Fortuna' – the world-famous bombastic beginning of 'Carmina Burana', accentuated by booming percussion, the invocation of the capricious goddess of fate. Even after listening to this introit a hundred times, shivers run down our spines. Composed in 1935-1936, Carl Orff's work is one of the most frequently performed choral and orchestral works of contemporary music and, as major classical open-air event, has elicited thunderous applause from the audience in recent years.
